There is lots of things you can collect while scuba diving. Here's a map
in a bottle and when you collect 4 map pieces it unlocks a hidden island.

You can be killed by a shark. Shark attacks are really rare but
the chance will be increased if you look at a shark or carry raw
meat, eggs or fish in your pocket
